Google releases the Android code as open source, under the Apache License. The Android Open Source Project (AOSP), led by Google, is tasked with the maintenance and further development of Android. Additionally, Android has a large community of developers writing applications ("apps") that extend the functionality of devices, written primarily in a customized version of Java. They are available for download through Google Play or third-party sites. In October 2012, there were approximately 700,000 apps available for Android, and the estimated number of applications downloaded from Google Play (and the now-defunct Android Market) was 25 billion.

How to import Facebook birthdays to Google Calendar

Do you forget your Facebook friends’ birthdays because you are too lazy to check every time you log on Facebook?  My old Android phone (HTC Raider) used to have a built in contact list that had a Facebook birthdays sync, but my new Samsung Galaxy S3 doesn’t really have any built in apps to sync like the way my HTC does.  And because of that, I had already missed a few friends’ birthdays and had to write belated birthday wishes on their walls…  So decided to do a little research and discovered a very easy way to import Facebook birthdays to Google Calendar since all Android users should already have a Google account.

I definitely have to share this with you all and here’s how.  (Note that I am using Chrome as my browser)

Step 1.  Go to your Facebook main page, find and click “Events” on the left side bar (usually under “FAVORITES“)

Step 1

Step 2.  Then on your top right hand corner, you should see “Today“, on it’s right side there should be a settings icon.  Click it and a drop-down menu should pop, then select “Export

Step 2

Step 3.  Then you should see a pop up window that says “Export Events and Birthdays“.  right click on “export you friends’ birthdays” and select “Copy link address” to copy the URL

Step 3

Step 4.  Now open up your Google calendar on your browser, Look on your left side bar you should find “Other calendars“, click that little arrow on the right side of “Other calendars”  and select “Add by URL

Step 4

Step 5.  An “Add by URL” window should pop up, right click in the URL field and select paste PASTE the webcal URL you copied from facebook. (e.g. webcal://www.facebook.com/ical/b.php?uid=!@#$%^&*&()^$#@54345678832) then click “Add Calendar

Step 5

Step 6.  That’s it, you should see “Friends’ Birthdays” on your calendar list.  Now all you have to do is to make  “Friends’ Birthdays” calendar visible in your Google calendar on your Android phones and Tablets, enable alerts if you want to and you will never miss a birthday again :-p

Step 6

Hope this helps, I found it very very useful on my Android phone since I had been trying different apps that would do similar things but nothing worked the way I wanted.  At the end, I found importing Facebook birthdays to Google Calendar works the best, yay Google Facebook I love you!!! 😀
