PhoPadThai (越泰盞)

PhoPadThai (越泰盞) is opened not long ago in that Asian food plaza at Apple Creek and Woodbine Ave Markham. where it used to be called WoodStone (森石).  As you can tell by their name, they serve a combination of Vietnamese and Thai food.  I am never a Thai food fan but instead, I love Viet Pho, since it is not very far from my work place, I had already been there twice and I would say they are actually not bad.  If you order their Viet Pho noodles, you get to choose fresh or regular noodle which you won’t find that in most Vietnamese restaurants.  Taste wise, ummm, there are really a lot of other competitors out there in Toronto really but usually what I look for is the details of the way they sliced their food, just take a look at the pictures below, they all taste the same really, if they are under the expectations, then their business will not last.  But I can say, this place is really not bad, at least I didn’t taste any MSG and their stir fried beef, spring rolls and my noodle made my stomach very satisfied 😛

GUU IZAKAYA

GUU IZAKAYA, yet another very popular izakaya place in Toronto.  What is izakaya?  The name “izakaya” is a compound word consisting of “i” (to stay) and “sakaya” (sake shop), indicating that izakaya originated from sake shops that allowed customers to sit on the premises to drink.  I haven’t been to a lot izakaya restaurants tho but this one is probably by far the best one I have tried so I don’t think I really have to mention anything about their food.  Location is really not bad because there is a pay parking right across the street and it is not far from Eaton Center if you want to get to downtown early and do a little shopping first then eat 😛  Price wise, ummm, it really depends, I went with 3 other people and at the end was like almost $45 per head including SAKE but I think it was totally worth it since it was my very first time there 😛  Also, one thing I have learned, if you go there, go early or there will be a HUGE lineup anytime after 6 which includes weekdays and they don’t accept reservations.  Anyways, I really had a great time there and here are some of the pictures I took while I was there, enjoy!

馬力雄咖啡店 (Marathon Donuts and Coffee Shop)

馬力雄咖啡店 (Marathon Donuts and Coffee Shop), their main location is in Scarborough and they just opened up one in Richmond Hill on East Beaver Creek Rd.  This is not a fancy or anything expensive restaurant, it is just Hong Kong Style Cafe/restaurant that has won a lot of awards in the last few years because of their Hong Kong style tea (港式奶茶) so definitely I would have to check that out.  Once you go in, don’t expect anyone would come serve you, just find yourself a seat because it is a restaurant where you have to order everything at the counter and pay at the counter.

The Hong Kong style tea (港式奶茶) was amazing compare to 99% of the other Chinese restaurants really.  I went in the morning, so I only tried their breakfast, really don’t have much comments on that, everything was alright I guess 😛  Anyways, when you drive by and you want a GOOD tea, drop by because they probably have the best HK style tea in the neigbourhood.

Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill

While we were at Bayview Village shopping, of course we had to find something to fill our empty stomachs, Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill, the very first restaurant when you enter the shopping mall.  This large urban space feels very downtown despite its North Toronto location. A gleaming open kitchen extends into the airy dining room, featuring washed tin ceilings, leather banquettes and dramatic and distinctive light fixtures.  I strongly recommend this place because of their nice constructions inside which makes you feel very causal and formal at the same time.  Food wise, 2 thumbs up!!!

Sorry for the shaky food pictures, I didn’t realize until now, guess I was really hungry 😛

草蜢華麗舞台演唱會 (Grasshopper’s glamour on stage)

The concert we were waiting for was finally here, 草蜢華麗舞台演唱會 (Grasshopper’s glamour on stage) located at Ricoh Coliseum and soo many friends were there too 😀  They started with slow songs then slowly moved into fast songs, at the half way point, the whole concert was already turned into a dance party and most people were on their feet dancing even the older people too, haha :p  Overall, it was a very funny and excited concert with a lot of old time favorites.  Too bad there was no encore at the end and because of that, after the concert was finished, we headed to Karaoke, since a few of us expected to have a late night concert and took the day off work the next day :p
