楓林閣海鮮酒家 (Fung Lam Court Chinese Restaurant)

It’s the time of the year to have a birthday celebration dinner with Cheryl, 楓林閣海鮮酒家 (Fung Lam Court Chinese Restaurant) on Kennedy and Denison st.  It had been a long time since me and my friends had a gathering so I was super excited to see them and looking forward to try this place out 🙂  東瓜盅 was the main reason why we chose the place, but I was also told that they had a lot of featured dishes as well, don’t really know the names of them in English but just take a look at the pictures below for reference.  Very typical Chinese restaurant, the 東瓜盅 was pretty unique, had a lot of different stuffs in it (shrimp, pork etc.) all the other dishes we ordered tasted not bad, not really over the top, well, considered the price is very inexpensive you know 😛 but I would still recommend this to friends or to my aunties for big gatherings 😛

SANSOTEI RAMEN 三草亭

SANSOTEI RAMEN 三草亭, there are 2 locations, the one I went to is located on 179 Dundas St. W, the other one is on 650 Yonge St.  Both places are pretty small and unique.  One thing you have to try is their signature broth – Tonkotsu (豚骨, “pork bone”). It takes hours to cook and they measure the concentration level hourly to ensure that the broth has reached the ideal thickness and texture. Overall, the ramen I had was probably better than the others I have tried on other restaurants, main reason why is because everything was less salty, the taste was very rich and the ramen itself was very chewy, just the way I like it 🙂  Same as all the other ramen restaurants, you also get to choose different kinds of soup base.  The only downside is, I am not sure where you can find parking, I actually took the subway there so, umm…  Anyways, this is a perfect place if you have a ramen craving while you are in downtown, 2 thumbs up!!!

0109 Dessert & Chocolate

0109 Dessert & Chocolate, not too often that you find a dessert place which is in a Chinese community, mostly because we Asians don’t like sweets. Luckily enough we picked out this place and it turned out pretty good, most dessert are not too sweet like some restaurants, their stuffs are pretty light in a good way, thumbs up! I would definitely go back just because of their cream brulee but beware because you probably need to make a reservation ahead of time because the place is packed with people unless you go early.

ZAKKUSHI (Japanese Yakitori Izakaya)

It’s that time of year again, To celebrate Karen birthday, we picked ZAKKUSHI a Japanese izakaya located in downtown Toronto. I actually passed by this place a few times and never knew this place is actually quite nice and spacious. The atmosphere is bascially like the other izakaya, once you go in they would greet you loudly and food are mostly BBQ stuffs. In my opinion, food is not the greatest compare to some others but still a very good place to try, as long as the fun factor is there, everything should be good B-) We did make a reservation because we had quite a lot of people but even if you have only a couple, I think you should make one too because this place is also very packed most of the time.

Christmas Eve 2013

Couldn’t really think of a better way of spending a Christmas Eve with the little monsters other than anywhere else 😛  We didn’t have a turkey dinner or anything, all we had was a sushi platter and some Vietnamese PHO.  And as usual, we had all the food ready on the table and we had to wait for Grace, Simon and Emily…  Anyhow, the kids wanted to play Xmas dress up, so they setup a graphics wall to take some cute pictures, Marcus was in a Santa suit and the 2 girls were dressed in red.  Even Valerie wasn’t feeling well but it didn’t seem to stop her from enjoying the night with Emily and Marcus as you can tell from the pictures below hehe.  Well, the Christmas Eve turned out to be a boxing day for the kids because after our fantastic meal, they just rushed to their presents piles and started opening all the gifts, LOL  It was really a fun night, thanks 福仔 肥媽 for the wonderful evening and Karen for the tasty cake at the end!
