馬力雄咖啡店 (Marathon Donuts and Coffee Shop)

馬力雄咖啡店 (Marathon Donuts and Coffee Shop), their main location is in Scarborough and they just opened up one in Richmond Hill on East Beaver Creek Rd.  This is not a fancy or anything expensive restaurant, it is just Hong Kong Style Cafe/restaurant that has won a lot of awards in the last few years because of their Hong Kong style tea (港式奶茶) so definitely I would have to check that out.  Once you go in, don’t expect anyone would come serve you, just find yourself a seat because it is a restaurant where you have to order everything at the counter and pay at the counter.

The Hong Kong style tea (港式奶茶) was amazing compare to 99% of the other Chinese restaurants really.  I went in the morning, so I only tried their breakfast, really don’t have much comments on that, everything was alright I guess 😛  Anyways, when you drive by and you want a GOOD tea, drop by because they probably have the best HK style tea in the neigbourhood.

New Year’s Eve 2012 recap

The New years Eve 2012 was not as exciting as the previous years but we had tons of fun because we could celebrate it with some of our best friends together 😀  We didn’t really have any plans for the day and we kind of made our last minute decision after our lunch.  Went to Costco and grabbed all the food we needed, then to Baskin Robins to get our dessert, that’s about it 😀  Really didn’t expect Grace would lose her voice because she was perfectly fine the day before, we really thought we would lose some fun if she couldn’t talk but instead, it was even more funny 😛

and here is a video of Grace that night, super funny :p

Anyways, a year had past, a New year has come, so what’s your New Year’s resolution?

Christmas Day Hotpot 2012!!!

On this Christmas Day, we decided to have our biggest hotpot dinner we had ever had in 2012 at Karen’s house.  Karen and Grace had to bring the kids to see Disney on ice in downtown, so me and Simon along with others had to get this hotpot dinner ready in the afternoon.  There were a few things that we never had in our hotpots home style, like the chicken wings end (雞翼尖), Hong Kong Style fish balls (彈牙街邊魚蛋) and a few misc. things 😀  We had a great time of course, but I think the happiest person of the night was Marcus, because he got to open all the gifts at the end of the night, hehe.

Unfortunately, Marcus got a very bad paper cut opening the gifts at the end of the night…  hope his finger will be ok soon 😛  Anyhow, happy holidays to everyone, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

輝煌閣 (Royal TeaHouse Dim Sum Specialist) with Aunties

Perfect timing to celebrate Christmas and New Year with a dim sum lunch with the aunties/Joe sir, the last time we had a gathering was over a month ago at 利家盛酒家.  If you remember, Joe sir got a terrible burn on his hands the last time we saw him and gladly they are perfectly fine now.  It was our Joe sir’s choice to go 輝煌閣 (Royal TeaHouse Dim Sum Specialist), located at the corner of Woodbine ave. and Applecreek.  Most dim sum places don’t last very long but this is one of the those restaurants that has survived for years, and I was right, everything tasted as good as years ago, some even better too.  The location is perfect because it is very close to my work place, and I go to the same plaza almost every week for lunch, just not dim sum but now, this is really a good choice for me and my colleagues to kill time haha.  Not to mention I have a 10% discount too, but lunch only 😛  If anyone who works in the area are interested, let me know and we can have lunch there 😀

BTW, What is Dim Sum in case you don’t know?

Dim sum refers to a style of Chinese food prepared as small bite-sized or individual portions of food traditionally served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. Dim sum is also well known for the unique way it is served in some restaurants, wherein fully cooked and ready-to-serve dim sum dishes are carted around the restaurant for customers to choose their orders while seated at their tables.

Eating dim sum at a restaurant is usually known in Cantonese as going to “drink tea” (yum cha, 飲茶), as tea is typically served with dim sum.

松田日本料理 Matsuda Japanese Cuisine

I haven’t had all you can eat Japanese buffet for years and my friend asked me to try this one because it is a quite famous one in Scarborough area, 松田日本料理 Matsuda Japanese Cuisine.  As usual, I order things differently in Japanese buffets, I would order cooked food a lot more than raw like sushi and sashimi because I think in an all you can eat buffet restaurant, sushi and sashimi would only be ok.  So to really test out the true quality of the restaurant, I ordered quite a lot of the cooked food 😀  The end result was not bad for the price, for $22 dinner, the food was very satisfying, everything I tried was good, surprisingly, the dessert was quite good too.  This is a perfect place for gathering for sure, did I mention the wait time without reservation?  I got there at 830, was told to wait 75 mins…  anyways, this is one of the reasons why you have to try this restaurant at least once, with that long of a wait time, it’s got to be good right?  hehe 😀  And don’t forget to make a reservation first, their no. is 416.298.2998, enjoy 😀
