Yes, it was that time of the year again and thanks my good friends for a birthday dinner celebration for me and Ruby!!! Another great Japanese restaurant pick located in downtown Toronto again, KINGYO (金魚) 🙂 I have to say out of all Japanese restaurants I have tried, this one probably has the most comfortable seats out of all. Tho it says izakaya (Japanese grilled), they don’t really have a lot izakaya to choose from but what I like the most was, everything tasted not as salty as the other izakaya and their sushi/sashimi tasted very good as well as their presentation. I would recommend this place to friends especially if you are looking to find a izakaya restaurant which is not as noisy so you can actually chat with your friends, and not to mention, the place is actually quite large, hehe. If you are interested to try this place out, I believe you will have to make a reservation AND you will only have 2 hours of eat time or they WILL kick you out, just a friendly reminder 😛

Gelato simply Italian
Gelato simply Italian, located on Yonge St. and south of Eglinton Ave. W, a fabulous true Italian Ice cream shop. Tho I am not an ice cream person but I was told their gelato is made with fresh ingredients, and the servers are always friendly and helpful, so I had to give this place a try. The decor is modern and roomy with Italian Art Deco prints and huge folding doors which open to allow the light to flood in from Yonge Street. Price is not bad, a medium cup with 3 flavors and a small cup with 2 flavors together is about $10, umm, YUM YUM!!! It turned out my Pistachio and Nocciolato was pretty good and surprisingly, I didn’t see any florescent color in there, so that tells me the ingredients are very natural. I would recommend this place to my friends and while you are there, you should explore the area too because there are tons of shops and restaurants in the area 🙂

Dinner with Cheryl and friends @ chop Steakhouse bar
As always, we would like to celebrate our friends birthdays early, if you are reading this, don’t forget to send greetings to Cheryl at the end of this week 😛 Cheryl’s pick of the night was chop Steakhouse bar, there are 8 across Canada, luckily the one in Toronto is located just around our airport, 801 Dixon Rd Toronto, Ontario M9W 1J5. First impression was, the look is very modern from the outside and the inside, people are extremely friendly and price is inexpensive compare to the similar kinds of restaurants. Our waitress was extremely friendly, quite surprised that she actually remembered all our names and service was excellent. I picked the crab cake, prime rib and apple pie from their summerlicious menu, everything was pretty good, crab cake was delicious, prime rib was cooked just right and apple pie was excellent. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish everything because the portion was a little big for me. Anyways, for a fine dinning restaurant, this one is really good especially if you want to get away from all those franchise in Toronto 🙂

Hokkaido Ramen Santouka Toronto (山頭火)
A very small Japanese Ramen Restaurant with a very big taste!!! 91 Dundas St E, Down Town Toronto, not hard to find, extremely easy if you take the subway, just exit Dundas station and walk outside from Eaton Center. I was quite surprised about the pretty displays ramen bowls in their windows and everything looked pretty neat from the outside, on the other hand, inside is very basic and kind of dull but once I saw the varieties of ramen on their menu, my eyes almost popped out. I believe all the ramen are the same size, unlike those huge portions ones we tried in the other places, I totally love their bowl size 😛 I have to admit, I love their noodles along with their meat and my friends love it too BUT we do have a big comment about everything, overall, everything is quite salty really… Other than that, everything would have been perfect, I when we go next time, we just order things with less salt 😛 Or maybe that’s the overall Japanese style because most I have tried are like this 😛

華星餐廳 (Chi Star House)
new pictures added 3 Jan 2014
華星餐廳 (Chi Star House) is located in 美食坊 9021 Leslie St. Unit 5-6. Richmond Hill, forgot what it used to be but this place was pretty packed when we went in. When a restaurant is always packed on weekdays, it means the place is good, I am soo glad we tried it because it is not only a Hong Kong style (港式餐廳) restaurant and they also have combo dishes (和菜). Take a look at what we ordered in the pictures below, don’t they look amazing? Well, they taste pretty good too, the soup was a little on the salty side but other than that, everything was cooked just the right the way for our taste buds 😀 If you are looking for a casual Chinese diner in the area, this is really a good option to consider, price is not bad either, but do expect a line up at the door or you can call them at 905-771-8880 to make a reservation.

P.S. one thing noticed too, I didn’t see a take out menu inside but they do take takeout orders.
